Seminar on Innovation in Road Transport: Opportunities for Improving Efficiency

The Seminar, jointly organised by The International Transport Forum (ITF) and the IMTT, will take place on 2 October in Lisbon, at Hotel Altis.
It will be preceded by a meeting of the ITF Group on Road Transport on 1 October 2009.
It is designed for practitioners from the Ministries of Transport of the Forum Member countries, industry experts and researchers, as well as representatives of different stakeholder organisations.
The aim of the Seminar is to examine key issues and policy challenges in development and applications of IT in road transport, both in individual Member countries and at a wider level and is intended to provide input to high level Ministerial industry discussions at the Forum 2010 on Transport and Innovation.
Three sessions of the Seminar will focus on applications of Intelligent Transport Systems in road freight transport, including:
• already deployed IT technologies and systems in road transport, including electronic tolling systems on motorways, in different Member countries and their impact.
• application of IT technologies in facilitating road freight transport and trade and cutting red tape; role of GPS and Traffic supervision systems in facilitating road transport’s interface with other transport modes, ensuring smooth and paperless movement of goods along transport supply chains.
• new vehicle technologies – what is the future for alternative engines and fuels, next generation of HGVs.
Simultaneous interpretation in Portuguese, English, French, German and Russian will be provided.
